Winters Weekend

Last weekend was a holiday weekend here in Queensland.  Historically it was when I’d go skiing in Australia, because it is the middle of winter.

No skiing this year because of the COVID.  The state borders here are closed and because of the border closures my mates, The Smith Family, couldn’t go camping.  So we thought it would be fun to swap houses.

Not this Smith Family….

The Smiths arrived on the coast Friday morning.  After breakfast, there was some time on the beach, whale watching…..

This is how whales are made…. drinking beer and eating at the surf club.

Leaving the Smith’s at the beach, I headed to their place to feed the dog and cat.

The next day I went for a run up in the Daisy Hill forest (where I grew up, yes, I grew up in a forest).

I had planned on catching up on a bunch of work but my golfing mate Megan (her official title is Club Champion Megan) had a spare seat to the footy….. sounded like more fun than work!!!

This is the second time I’ve been asked to the footy recently, first time was a rugby game and was just as beautiful a night.  This is the middle of the winter remember.

I still had some chores that I had to do, despite neglecting the business.

I had to do some piano practice…..

I had to clean the Ordy – at the footy I was asked if I was a male hairdresser…..

Monday morning came too fast and I had to head home…..

6am alarm because I had to play tennis with Mr. Smith.  New court for us and it was really cool.  As usual Mr. Smith kicked my arse and from this photo you can see how dismissive he is by turning his back….. 6/2.

Then I had to play golf at my old club.  Guess who is the one carrying their clubs instead of cruising around in a buggy?  All that walking, you wouldn’t think I was part of whale watching season as seen in the first photo.

I did make it back to the beach.  For dinner I’m having some burgers, This is the first time I’ve eaten kangaroo burgers…. knowingly.  I’m so excited I’m hopping around the house.

Instead of skiing this week as I used to, I’ll just have to make do with what I have here in the middle of winter.  Here is this weeks weather forecast…..

That is Celsius, not Fahrenheit.

PS – The Smith family left a note and it reads:
“PS: We replaced your chocolate stash for Scotch. As we ate almost all of your chocolate.”
